A Treat From Walmart Killed My Dog!!

Don't Let It Happen to You!!!!...Received this email from my daughter Cearle, who got it from her friend....Thought I would pass it on to my dog loving friends.....

I would like to warn all dog lovers out there to be very careful about the dog treats that you give your dogs. Last week I bought a "Real Ham Bone" made by Dynamic Pet Products of Missouri from Walmart. Here is what it looks like:

The label says it is made with "100% Food Grade Ingredients" and it isn't made from China. I thought that meant that this would make a good treat for my dogs. Boy was I wrong. Trace, my dog, enjoyed chewing on this bone. It did not splinter or anything, in fact there is quite a large piece of it still left. Then in the evening she started vomiting. She spent the next day at a veterinarian's office where she was diagnosed with a blockage of the colon. That night she endured a 4 hour surgery at Brandon Veterinary Specialists where the vet picked out small round pellets of the bone, up to the size of about a b-b. The next morning she was moved to Florida Veterinary Specialist critical care unit. Again in the evening she had another 2 hour surgery, because the blockage had caused poison in her body. She passed away at 4:30 the next afternoon. Everyone who hears this horrible story immediately says "Well that sounds like a lawsuit to me". That is what I thought also. Since then, I have learned that is not that easy to sue on behalf of a dog. The lawyers say a dog is a possession just like a couch. So, so far, all I have been able to do is write a certified letter to Dynamic Pet Products of Missouri. In it I requested my vet bills to be paid and their product to be relabeled or preferably removed from the shelf. I don't know if I will get a response. If anyone else has any ideas about how I may address this issue, please let me know at djurgens12@aol.com. In the memory of Trace, please pass this email on to all of the dog lovers that you know. This type of bone is sold in all of the stores under several different manufacturers names. I would assume they all may do the same thing. Even if they don't splinter, they can cause a blockage....

Halloween Munch!...Bark!...Brittle!...Snack!

Um, Um, Good!!!...Gonna like this Halloween Munch..
Fast and easy to make...Tastes like a Payday Candy Bar..
Recipe:
1-12 ounce can Cocktail Peanuts
1-11 ounce bag M & M'S
1-10 ounce bag Candy Corn
Pour all ingredients into a bowl and mix well

Peanut Butter Snack Mix Recipe

Ingredients:

3 tablespoons honey

2 tablespoons butter

3 tablespoons peanut butter

4 cups Chex cereal (assorted wheat and corn) 2 cups mini pretzels 1/3 cup peanuts

Instructions:

1. Preheat oven to 175F.

2. Combine honey, butter and peanut butter in a microwave-safe bowl and heat until smooth. Combine cereal, pretzels and peanuts in a large bowl. Pour peanut butter mixture over cereal mixture and toss to coat. Spread on baking sheet and bake for 1 and 1/2 hours.

Chocolate Candy Corn Bark

Ingredients:

2-cups semi-sweet chocolate chips

1-cup white chocolate chips

1-cup candy corn

1. Prepare a cookie sheet by lining with alumium foil.

2.In separate bowls, melt the chocolates in the microwave or over a double boiler.

3. Stir 1/2 cup candy corn into the dark chocolate, and pour the chocolate onto the foiled pan. Ising a spoom or spatula, smooth the chocolate out in an even layer. It does not have to cover the whole pan.

4. Take a spoon and scoop small amouths of white chocolate over the dark in a random pattern. Use a toothpick or the tip of a knife to swirl the two chocolates together. Don't swril too much, you want to be able to see the distinct chocolates in the end.

5. Place the remaining 1/2 cup candy corn over the wet chocolates, sprinkling randomly and pressing them gently into the chocolate until they adhere.

6. Put the chocolate in the refrigerator for 30 minutes to harden.

7. When the bark is firm, remove it from the foil and break it.

This great recipe is from Elizabeth LaBau.

Popcorn Brittle Recipe

This snack combines the sweet crunchy texture of brittle with the airy saltiness of popcorn. Great as a gift for the holidays or for the kids to munch on Halloween.

Ingredients:
14 cups freshly popped popcorn (made from 1/2 cup popcorn kernels and 2 tablespoons canola oil)

2 cups sugar

1 cup light corn syrup

1 cup water

1 teaspoon salt

1 tablespoon unsalted butter, plus additional for greasing

1 tablespoon unsulfured molasses

1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions:
1. Lightly butter 2 large (15 x 11-inch) baking sheets and a rubber spatula or wooden spoon.

2. Working in batches, place 2 cups popcorn in food processor. Pulse until crushed into small pieces. Do not overprocess. Repeat with remaining popcorn.

3. Stir sugar, corn syrup, water and salt in a medium saucepan over medium heat until sugar dissolves and mixture is simmering. Clip a candy thermometer to the inside of the pan and continue heating undisturbed until temperature reaches 270F (about 10 to 15 minutes). Mixture will boil vigorously.

4. Stir in butter, molasses and vanilla. Continue heating until temperature reaches 290F (between soft- and hard-crack stages).

5. Remove pan from heat; stir in crushed popcorn. Working quickly, pour mixture over prepared sheets. Using the buttered rubber spatula, press evenly to flatten like peanut brittle. Cool to room temperature on a wire rack and break into chunks.

Makes 1 pound.

Halloween Mummies....Quick & Easy Halloween Project!

Turn used glass jars into these spooky Halloween candles for your party or Trick-or-Treat table.

Cut cheesecloth into strips approximately 1/2" to 1" wide.
Tack the beginning of the cheesecloth with hot glue at the top of the container.
Brush the back of your cheesecloth strips with Mod Podge or Glow-in-the-Dark Mod Podge. Wrap your container with cheesecloth strips until desired coverage is acheived. Make sure to leave open areas for eyes. Refer to photo.
You may use rubber bands to hold the cheesecloth in place as it dries.
When glue is dry, stick glow-in-the-dark wiggle eyes into the areas you left open.
For safety, use a battery operated LED T-lights....

Have Had A Hard Week!

Yes this has just been one of those awful weeks....A lot of you know what I am talking about....just seems everything is going wrong....This week my dear daughter-in-law found out she has breast cancer, and her husband, my son, is having prostrate problems and needs tests run...Another son, has to have both knees replaced because of the side effects of Hep C & the treatments for it, which he got while serving our nation in the Navy....Now my oldest daughter was rushed to the hospital yesterday with a palpating heart, and they had to stop her heart from beating to stop the palpating..So now she has to go to a cardiologist for tests & more tests...I don't know if there is enough of me to be everywhere at once... Seems like once it starts raining it just seems to pour.....I know all will work out for the best, because God is on our side....Just please say a little prayer for them all.....

Caramel Krispies & Peppermint Snowballs!!!

Here you go girls!
Have fun making these and be sure to let the kids or grand kids help!!

PEPPERMINT SNOWBALLS
10-oz. pkg. chocolate sandwich cookies,crushed
8-oz pkg. cream cheese, softened
6-oz. pkg. white melting chocolate
1 to 1-1/2 cups peppermint candies, finely crushed.

Mix together crushed cookies & cream cheese. Roll into 1-1/2" balls and set aside. Melt white chocolate over low heat; stir in crushed candy. Dip balls into chocolate and set on wax paper to harden..Makes 2-1/2 dozen.

CARMEL KRISPIES

1-14 OZ PACKAGE KRAFT CARAMELS
1-CAN SWEETENED CONDENSED MILK
1-STICK BUTTER
2-10 OZ PKGS LARGE MARSHMALLOWS
1-BOX RICE KRISPIES

Unwrap caramels and put into the top of a double boiler. Melt caramels, condensed milk & butter over the double boiler. Dip marshmallows in caramel mixture and then roll in Rice Krispies that have been poured out into a large cake pan. Place the rolled marshmallows on wax paper covered cookie sheets or cardboard, and place in cool place to set. This is a messy recipe but they are so good and different…. If you don’t have a double boiler then make one…Use a larger pan and put the water in that one and then place the smaller pan on top of that and you have a double boiler…. Not the best picture, but I wasn't going to make any now, so this will have to do!
